Yesterday, university hospitals celebrated World Hand Hygiene Day, which is considered an internationally recognized technique to reduce infection rates in healthcare facilities. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Anani, Advisor to His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Omar Sherif Omar, Secretary of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, and in cooperation with the Egypt Office of the World Health Organization, the African Network for Infection Control (ICAN), officials from the JICA Patient-Centered Healthcare Project, Primary Healthcare, and Prof. Dr. Ghada Ismail, Rapporteur of the Supreme Committee for Infection Control and Advisor to the Secretary of the Council for Institutional Development. The university hospitals showcased their activities, and the celebration included competitions for the audience, film screenings, and the distribution of posters and hand hygiene supplies. Distinguished infection control units in 20 participating universities were honored, as were the leaders of university hospitals who support and adopt infection control and patient safety programs, which contributes to improving the quality of healthcare in university hospitals.
